Groin Pain Related to Menopause
Groin pain affects many people and for some, it can be a debilitating condition. This is especially true for women who are approaching menopause. From the time their initial perimenopause stage begins, many women complain of this condition, which can strongly affect their quality of life and place limits on their physical activities.
Traditional Japanese acupuncture (TJA) has been shown to be an effective way to treat various types of perimenopause and menopausal related pain, including that of the hips, lower back, knees and joints, as well as the groin.
In this blog, we will explore the use of TJA in the treatment of groin pain, focusing on the unique approach developed by NAOKI HATTORI Traditional Japanese Therapy.
Treatment with NAOKI HATTORI Traditional Japanese Therapy
Traditional Japanese acupuncture (TJA) is a holistic approach to treating a wide variety of health issues, including groin pain, by balancing the flow of energy, or life force (Qi), within the body. It is based on the theory that pain is largely caused by a blockage or imbalance of Qi in the meridians (energy channels) that connect the organs and tissues of the body.
By stimulating specific points with ultrafine needles, acupuncture can regulate the flow of Qi and restore harmony in the patient’s body. It can modulate the activity of the nervous system, the immune system, and the endocrine system, all of which are involved in pain perception and inflammation.
For the treatment of groin pain, acupuncture points related to the Liver, Spleen, and Stomach meridians are often targeted, as they have been shown to alleviate pain and improve Qi and blood flow in the affected area. For instance, the acupuncture point LV 12, also known as “Ji Mai” or “Urgent Pulse,” is located in the inguinal groove and is understood to be useful for treating groin pain.
By identifying the channels involved for each patient and needling the appropriate corresponding points, acupuncture can help relieve pain and promote healing. Acupuncture treatment for groin pain should be tailored to the individual’s pattern diagnosis and aim to address the root cause of the pain as well as the immediate symptoms.
The case of Madame L
Madame L is 50-year-old female who came to us seeking treatment for her persistent groin pain. As a menopausal woman, she was also experiencing hormonal shifts and fluctuations that were impacting her overall well-being. In Traditional Japanese Medicine, the symptoms of menopause are thought to be caused by disharmony in the Liver or Kidney organs. Diagnosis revealed that in her case, the Liver organ was affected by hormonal fluctuation. By palpating various energy nodes, it was discovered that her pain was associated with an imbalance in her Qi, particularly in the Liver and Spleen meridians. This imbalance was causing a blockage of energy flow in her body, leading to her discomfort.
With this in mind, we devoted Madame L’s initial sessions to the regulation of her Liver and Spleen meridians and rebalancing her overall hormonal system through the Liver organ.
After two sessions, her groin pain went into remission. Since then, she continues to have regular treatments for menopause with us once every three months and has maintained good physical and emotional condition.
