Lower Back Pain
Have you ever thought about trying acupuncture to relieve or even cure your lower back pain?
There are a number of causes of lower back pain, ranging from muscle spasms, nerve compression by bulging or prolapsed disc, musculoskeletal injury or etc… Suffering from lower back pain can very debilitating and this pain can often be associated with other symptoms, such as sciatica, numbness and buttock pain.
Traditional Japanese Therapy has very different views of lower back pain.
According to it, the cause of this pain is stagnation – either of the body’s energy (Qi) or of blood in the local area. It is always a result of impeded circulation, which can lead to inflammation or degeneration. This treatment is based on regulating Qi and blood through the meridians.
So in the acupuncture treatment, the type of pain (whether it is dull or sharp), the time of day it occurs and what things soothe or aggravate it are all of diagnostic importance. My treatment tries to deal with the cause of the problem and not just the symptoms and can be tailored to target the specific cause of your pain, allowing us to achieve quick and effective results in the elimination of your back pain.

・providing pain relief – by stimulating nerves located in muscles and other tissues, acupuncture leads to release of endorphins and other neurohormoral factors and changes the processing of pain in the brain and spinal cord (Pomeranz 1987; Zhao 2008).
・reducing inflammation – by promoting release of vascular and immunomodulatory factors (Kim 2008, Kavoussi 2007;Zijlstra 2003).
・improving muscle stiffness and joint mobility – by increasing local microcirculation (Komori 2009), which aids dispersal of swelling and bruising.
・reducing the use of medication for back complaints (Thomas 2006).
・providing a more cost-effective treatment over a longer period of time (Radcliffe 2006;Witt 2006).
・improving the outcome when added to conventional treatments such as rehabilitation exercises (Ammendolia 2008; Yuan 2008).
